Monday night the Vigo County Library Board approved the plant to start pursuing a new location.
They are now working to acquire an old daycare facility near the West Vigo Community Center.
The building would give the library double the amount of space they currently have, and allow them to bring some now the latest technologies.
"We've been making do with a little space that we have but with a facility that offers 5000 ft.² we will be able to add those meeting room faces, those computer class bases in really offer something new to the community," said library director Christi Howe.
The total cost for the building and renovations is expect to be around $600,000, and would be completed by 2015.
