70 days -- that's about how long summer break is for students in the Vigo County School Corporation. That means 70 days for the corporation to get upkeep completed on the schools.

Of the corporation's 29 schools, 11 are undergoing a significant amount of work. There are new gym floors, new roofs, new air conditioning units... the list goes on.

Overall, close to six million dollars is being spent. If this was a competition, Hoosier Prairie Elementary School would take the cake. Four million dollars is being spent on the elementary school, but the reward is priceless.

Hoosier Prairie is being converted from an open-concept floor plan to one that is more safe and secure. The building will now have lockable doors.

All work is expected to be complete by the start of the school year.
