A Terre Haute couple is behind bars for allegedly abandoning dozens of animals in a different county.  Indiana state police received a tip about animal neglect in Coal City in Owen County.

A tip prompted the investigation which started on June 2.

Police searched the property and found rabbits and guinea pigs living in an abandoned trailer.

Police described the conditions as "squalid," and say some cage floors were covered in five to six inches of feces. Helping Pawz Animal Rescue and outreach took in a total of 37 animals.

Police arrested Jimmy and Stacey Ornduff of Terre Haute. They were taken to the Vigo County Jail on animal neglect charges.
