Household pets are at risk for a growing number of diseases and viruses.

That was part of the message at the Sullivan County Humane Society Saturday.

They hosted an open house for the community to come learn more about the services the shelter offers.

Teaching others about fostering and volunteering helps the humane society get their pets a new home.

A live DJ started the party, and visitors were able to pet, play, and take dogs on walks.

Overall officials say the main importance is to help save a life, and get the community aware of adopting a new friend

Julie Walkup, with the Sullivan County Humane Society said, "There's so many dogs and cats that need homes and we've got great ones here. We've got a great staff and we got this sweet little guy right here, he wants to go home with somebody today."

Officials say if you love pets and have some spare time, they're always looking for volunteers.
