Over the next couple of weeks, Deming Center residents will move to the new Warren Village.
"The Deming Center is at a point where it needs some money put into it which brought us to the decision to take this venture on," said Jeff Stewart, the Terre Haute Housing Authority's Executive Director.
Construction began toward the end of last year, and is ahead of schedule.
Starting next week, the housing authroity will move several residents into their new home at Warren Village.
"Biggest difference between here and Deming Center is larger units. Obviously, new. Central air," added Stewart. "Fully dressed out kitchen with garbage disposal and dishwasher."
Currently, Deming Center features 109 units.
Warren Village will have 111 units, 12 of which are handicap accessible.
James Hehmen will be moving into one of those units.
"Moving to a new facility will probably be better for them over the old one which is not really built for
handicap accessibility," said Hehmen, who lives at the Deming Center.
Ask any of the Deming Center residents how they feel about the move, and you'll get one response.
"Oh yes," Hehmen exclaimed. "Most of the people in there are excited to move to someplace else."
"They're excited. I think they're ready to move," added Stewart. "Several of them would move tomorrow if given the opportunity. We're not quite ready yet but i think they're looking forward to the move."
When it comes to getting all of the residents' belongings to Warren Village, Stewart says they've contracted a moving company which most of the residents will take advantage of.
"There will be an organized process to that. We obviously can't move 100 people in a day," Stewart explained. "Over the course of a few weeks, we'll get everyone moved hopefully in an orderly process."
A few features that Warren Village will include are upgraded levels of security and green space.
The facility will feature more than 30 security cameras with monitors inside the management office.
They hope to have all the Deming Center residents moved into the Warren Village facility by mid-October.
