Systems that process customer payment card information may have been hacked.
Michaels said they're working with federal officials to "determine the nature and scope of the issue."
They've also hired a private forensics company to investigate.
If the breach is confirmed, Michaels will join Target and Neiman Marcus as the third major retailer to be hacked over the past two months.
