In Illinois, driver's licenses can no longer be posted as bail for traffic citations. Under previous law, a license had to be posted for certain offenses.

Over the weekend, Governor Pat Quinn signed the Sign and Drive bill. which is already in effect. The bill requires a signature on a citation as a promise the offender will follow court orders.

The governor says the change will help in everyday situations in which identification is needed.
