Jesse has told us to expect nicer weather in the days ahead, so there will be no excuse not to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

It can be a good physical and mental boost.

Some local folks got a head-start on that today at the national guard armory.

Today's event was about healthy ideas, offering fitness tips, medical screenings, and exercise reminders.

With the long winter finally over, it's time for the Wabash Valley to get motivated and get moving.

Patty Cannoy, the Health and Wellness Operations Coordinator stated, "The idea is to come out and see what's going on. Come out and see what you can do to be active. It doesn't mean you have to go run 5 miles, or doesn't mean you have to go do Zumba. You can do something with a little less impact, but get started moving."

The active adult and fitness fair offered health screenings, vision and hearing tests, and demonstrations for healthy eating.

Rita Cree, a participant who was attending the event said, "It's been a long winter, and it's time that I did. I'm gearing myself up psychologically, and all of the handouts and literature that you read help."

Fitness centers and programs also demonstrated healthy activities and products of a healthy lifestyle.

"These things are just very nice to come to. You get a lot of information and if you use it, it can be very helpful," said Cree.

Recipes and exercise are just a few different ways to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into your daily routine.

"We worked a lot with different age groups, and so we were wanting people to realize that wellness and fitness are a big part of that. Because, if you work on the wellness now, and get active and moving now, that in the future you will feel better," Cannoy stated.

Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett stopped by and led a half-mile walk on a near-by walking trail.

Organizers want to expand it to area counties, plus since this was the first year in Terre Haute, they hope to make it an annual event.
