It was a party in the middle of Indiana State University's campus on Tuesday, but the meaning of it goes a lot deeper.

The university hosted its Spring Fling Fundraiser. The event raises money to award scholarships to staff members trying to earn their degrees.

While ISU covers a portion of staff members' tuition as part of their benefits, the cost of books and other expenses can still make it difficult to pay.

Officials say this fundraiser has made a big difference in peoples' lives, including an employee at the ISU Career Center.

"She told me when she received it that she had other issues going on in her life with the health of family members and if it hadn't been for the scholarship, she might not have been able to finish college. So, it's just really important for us to help others out," says Jamie Hays with the Special Events and Recognition Committee.

Officials hope they can award six to eight scholarships with this year's fundraiser, but it all depends on how much money is raised.
