A local service group was up early Saturday morning raising money for local charities.

The Wabash Valley Chapter of Delta Theta Tau held its first-ever 5-k run and walk Saturday.
More than 70 people turned out for the event held in forest park.

Organizers say they're impressed with the turnout for it being their first attempt at hosting a race.

"We've had a really good turnout we've had a beautiful day and I think the community will continue to support us so we'll have one next year, too," Kim Emmert-O'Dell, president of the chapter said.

The groups goal was to raise to raise $3,000.
That money will be given back to local non-profits like the YMCA and as well as area high school marching bands.
