A Terre Haute man who stopped to help a stranded motorist on I-70 near Cloverdale died after being hit by a truck.

Indiana State Police say John Dugger and a relative stopped to help a stranded couple from Texas.

While trying to push the stranded vehicle to his own car in order to jump the battery, it's believed Dugger stepped into the driving lane of I-70.

He was hit by a truck driven by Terry Scarbrough, 55, of Farmersburg.

Dugger was thrown into the air and landed on his relative Andrea Dugger.

John Dugger was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital where he died of his injuries.

Andrea Dugger suffered a leg injury and was transported to an Indianapolis hospital.
