A new emergency program in Vigo COunty is being called a success. In May, county officials added 911 for dispatch operators. That means people can now text to get help in emergency situations. 911 director, Rob McMullen says operators received around 50 texts in just one month. He says the texts can be helpful in crisis situations

"We use it on a daily basis more for the outbound text where we can text callers that have had a 911 hang up or something to that sort. But the inbound texts we are receiving maybe one a week," McMullen said.

Pictures and videos could also soon be added to the text to 911 program.
