The current property owner hopes to build a dollar general in a residential area on North Clinton Street in Terre Haute.

Before doing so, they must rezone the property from a residential to a commercial property.

The measure went before the Area Planning commissioners tonight.

Neighbors have met the proposal with opposition.

There's even a petition that gained more than 350 signatures.

Neighbors argue that there's already a Dollar General a mile and a half down the road, on North 25th Street.

One of the biggest concerns neighbors have is added traffic on North Clinton Street.

"Getting in and out of the driveway is a huge problem already. This will just escalate that situation. Make it more difficult and more dangerous," said Margeret Korenski, who lives next to the property.

"And like I said, we've lived here for years. You got to wait for traffic. You can't be in a hurry," added her husband, Joe.

The rezoning request received an unfavorable recommendation.

The Vigo County commissioners will make a final decision on the rezoning requests on Monday.
