Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller is warning Hoosiers about a phone scam sweeping the nation.

The scammers, claiming to be the IRS, call and demand immediate payment.

The scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of your social security number. They may also be able to replicate the IRS's toll free number on Caller ID, making the call look legitimate.

Officials call it the largest-ever phone scam and say it has cost victims nationwide about $5 million.

So far, about 160 Hoosiers have reported this scam to the attorney general's office.

If you think you've been scammed, contact the Indiana Attorney General's Office by filing a consumer complaint here or by calling 1-800-834-9969.
