The local wing of the Air National Guard marked a major milestone Saturday afternoon.

Dozens gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 181st Air National Guard.
Local dignitaries were on hand as well.
The unit was organized in 1954.
Since then members have served in World war II, flying submarine patrol along the east coast and the Gulf of Mexico.
The 181st was also activated for the Korean War and the Berlin crisis
One of the members of the inaugural class of 1954 said it was good to come back home today.

"Pretty proud to tell you the truth, it's been quite a ride. It's an experience to see what they've done out here and all these guys are doing a completely different mission than what we had," Terry Mills said.

A ceremonial fighter wing painting was also unveiled at Saturday's ceremony.
