Clay City, IN. - Clay City High School senior Calvin Fry has been accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy.
The acceptance rate for the academy is only 9 percent.
Fry is the first Clay County student to get accepted, straight out of high school.
Fry started the application process last summer and got the call from Congressman Larry Bucshon May 4th that he made it in.
It requires good grades, high test scores and a nomination from a member of congress.
Fry was recommended by both Congressman Larry Bucshon and Senator Todd Young.
Tuesday the senior class gathered to honor Fry and a Crane Naval Base officer presented Fry with his certificate, and an official Crane coin.
"Definitely keep all your options open," Calvin Fry said. "Really work hard in school with are your extra-curricular and keep your grades up so that way when you get to your senior year you can choose all the doors that will still be open for you so you can continue and pursue whatever path you decide. So really work hard and keep all your options open."
Fry wants to get a degree in nuclear engineering or mechanical engineering.
