Vigo County School officials want to take another step to improve security. They'd like to renovate one of their elementary schools; bringing it out of the 1970s and into the 21st century.
Hoosier Prairie is Vigo County's last open-concept school. Officials proposed the renovation at Monday's school board meeting. They say the current old-school design concept isn't ideal for instruction or security.
The project isn't supposed to cost more than $4.1 million and would include adding permanent classroom walls, doors and vestibules and updating the fire system.
School officials will finalize their plans and present again to the board in the next few weeks.
