The official ISTEP testing kicked off Monday, so how can you make sure your kids are performing at their peak?

Experts say the most important thing is ignore past problems -- like last year's glitches.

Remember - it's just a test! If you're nervous, that'll pass on to your kids.

Just keep them calm, avoid anything else that makes them anxious - and extra encouragement goes a long way.

"Really is an opportunity to show what you know, and to encourage our kids to do well when that opportunity presents itself. They should be getting good rest every night, they should be getting a good breakfast every morning and let's make sure that's especially happening at ISTEP time. Don't worry about the show storms, you can't control that... just show what you know. That's the best way we can help our kids," said Bill Stanczykiewicz, President and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute.

Experts also advise you to be involved throughout the school year, so ISTEP time -and the results - are not a surprise.
