Vigo County, IN - With all of the rain that the Valley has had recently, a lot of people are in recovery mode, and some of those affected include farms and dirt-based properties.
One of them being the Griffin Bike Park.
In fact, the park was scheduled to host a race this past Saturday, but that was canceled due to the weather.
The park has been closed for almost a full week, due to rain and standing water. This past weekend, storms made the problem even worse, however, it may not be all bad news.
It doesn't take long when walking through the gates of Griffin Bike Park to see the problem.
"We've got a few places that are wet. Our jump lines are still a little wet. We've got a couple wet spots in our pump track but we are having more problems with downed limbs and trees than water right now," says Griffin Bike Park Manager Rich Moore.
Moore walked through the park Tuesday afternoon looking at what mother nature left behind.
"The trails are actually in pretty good shape. Our little kids loop has a little spring running through the center of it, we now know were it goes because of this rain."
While riders may beg to differ, the storms that dropped nearly four inches of rain on Terre Haute could help Griffin Bike Park.
"This rain was actually really good for us. It illustrated where we need to work rather than the problems we have."
Which gives the park it's next big project. The bike park is expected to address the problems and fix the ditches in upcoming work days. Fixing the drainage won't just open the trails more, but make the experience that much better.
"We would like it, when it rains hard, we would like it to be opened again the next day but sometimes it's not feasible when you get 4 inches of rain."
It's all about experimenting here for the park and Rich Moore.
The goal is to have the best bike park and trail systems in the midwest if not the country. The bike park has 3 races planned for this year they are calling "trial runs" in hopes of growing in years to come.
The first one, supposed to be last Saturday, but was postponed for the rain.
That race will be rescheduled for Memorial Day Weekend.
The bike park has work days posted on their Facebook page as well as trail conditions and statuses.
