Arson Investigator Assists in Rescue

WEST TERRE HAUTE, IN - Terre Haute's arson investigator put his life saving skills to a different use this week.

Witness video captured Norm Loudermilk yanking a woman from the Wabash River bridge in West Terre Haute.

Loudermilk says he was at the West Terre Haute police station when a woman came in saying someone was about to jump off the bridge into the river.

He says he later ran into the woman at the hospital who said she recognized Loudermilk from pulling her from the ledge and started crying.

"Now she's in professional hands hopefully will get the help she needs and maybe we'll meet someday outside the hospital," he said.

Loudermilk assisted West Terre Haute police and a sheriff's deputy who tried talking the woman down. That's when he was able to get behind the woman and pull her from the ledge.
