Mechell Dixon

Mechell Dixon is the newest member of the WTWO News Team. She is a contributing anchor on the 5pm newscast, she co-anchors the 6pm and 11pm newscasts with Tom McClanahan, and she also reports.
Mechell grew up in the small East Texas town of Lufkin and at the age of eight acquired big dreams of being in television news. She joined the Explorer's Club, which showed interested children the in's and out's of different businesses. However, when the club toured the KTRE newsroom, Mechell found her calling!
She took journalism classes in middle and high school then attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX—the Alma mater of Dan Rather, former CBS Evening News Anchor.  There, she was awarded Anchor of the Year and placed second in a contest to conduct a live satellite interview with Mr. Rather before graduating with a BFA in Radio/Television/Film.
Shortly after graduating, Mechell was hired as the assistant assignments editor at KLTV in Tyler, TX. Although she worked weekdays, she improved her writing and editing skills by volunteering in the newsroom on the weekends. Six months later, she was hired as a reporter at KALB in Alexandria, LA, and promoted to weekend anchor/producer a few months later.
From there, Mechell continued anchoring, reporting and producing in newsrooms in Georgia and Florida before leaving the news business for a short time until the lure of broadcast journalism brought her back to television news.
Before coming to the Hoosier state, Mechell anchored weekends and reported three days a week at KFDX 3 News in Wichita Falls, TX. She also anchored the 9 pm. newscast on KJTL – Texoma's Fox.
During Mechell's career in television news, she has covered political, crime, environmental, education, agricultural and weather related stories-- including raging brush fires and hurricanes in Florida.
In addition to news, Mechell loves to cook, shop, listen to jazz music and spoil her nephew and niece, whenever possible. She also loves hearing about upcoming events and issues in the community. So, if you have a story idea to pass along, send it to the following email:
