Alyssa Andrews joined the WTWO news team in January 2016. Weeks before this, she became part of the first class to graduate from The Media School at Indiana University-Bloomington, double majoring in Social Media Journalism and Telecommunications.
During her time at IU, Alyssa developed a social following for her satirical sports commentary via YouTube and Twitter with “HoosierLyss”. She was hired by the IU Athletics Marketing department to continue making HoosierLyss videos covering IU Men’s Basketball. Her favorite internships were for Indy’s ESPN Radio and for FOX 59 Sports in Indianapolis, where the opportunity to cover Indiana’s professional teams inspired her to pursue sportscasting.
Alyssa was a sideline reporter for IU’s Big Ten Network student crew for 3 years, where she expanded her range of sports coverage to baseball, basketball, water polo, softball, soccer, and field hockey. Her favorite broadcasting memory is going live for the first time on BTN, covering Indiana’s first run to Omaha in school history. The report was so basic, that her dad used an app to remix the broadcast into a rap song to make her feel better (which it did). She also has experience reporting on quidditch, but that’s a story for another time.
Aside from her love for all things Indiana and sports, Alyssa enjoys blogging about life and politics, watching movies, and hanging out with friends and family. She is excited to begin her career in Terre Haute and get to know the Wabash Valley. You can email Alyssa at firstname.lastname@example.org
